The US is said to be considering revoking waivers that allow certain global semiconductor manufacturers to export US technology to China, Citi Research issued a research report saying. Affected companies include TSMC (TSM.US) and Samsung Electronics.

The impact on US semiconductor equipment manufacturers is expected to be minimal, as multinational companies have been reducing manufacturing in China amid uncertainties over the past few years, according to Citi Research.

Meanwhile, as China agreed to temporarily resume rare earth export permits, concerns over a broader ban on exporting semiconductor equipment to China are believed to have temporarily eased.
